Our Client is a leading multidisciplinary consultancy seeking a high-calibre individual to lead and grow its Transport Planning capability in the North West. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced transport planner with a strong commercial mindset and a track record of building teams and winning work. The business is an established consultancy operating across transport planning, environmental and engineering disciplines, with a clear vision around sustainable development, decarbonisation and future mobility. Supported by a dedicated research and innovation function, the team works at the forefront of transport and mobility solutions, advising on complex development and infrastructure projects.
The organisation is led by a highly experienced management team and brings together transport planners, social scientists and climate specialists with extensive experience in delivering evidence-based strategies and net-zero aligned outcomes. The consultancy has a strong presence across the Midlands and the North of England and continues to invest in growth across its regional offices.

The role
You will take responsibility for leading and expanding the transport planning offer in the Manchester region, working as part of a national leadership group within the Transport & Mobility Planning discipline. The role offers genuine autonomy to shape strategy, grow revenue and build a high-performing team, with strong backing from senior leadership nationally.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading and growing the regional transport planning team.
• Generating new business from existing and new client relationships
• Developing and managing key client accounts
• Recruiting, mentoring and developing transport planning professionals
• Delivering expert transport planning advice to support land-use development
• Managing complex development projects from feasibility through planning, appeal and inquiry stages
• Negotiating fees and managing project financial performance
• Promoting a strong culture around health, safety and wellbeing
• Contributing to national strategy and continued service development
• Staying at the forefront of technical, policy and legal developments within transport planning

About you
You will be a highly experienced, commercially focused transport planner with proven leadership and work-winning capability. You are comfortable operating at Director level, engaging with senior stakeholders and collaborating across disciplines.
Ideally, you will bring:
• A strong track record of winning and delivering transport planning work
• Experience leading teams and managing budgets
• Excellent private-sector client contacts
• In-depth knowledge of planning, policy and legal frameworks
• High technical capability across sustainable transport strategies and transport modelling
• Experience within the development industry across a range of land-use sectors
• Strong communication, leadership and relationship-building skills
