Job Description

Our client is a well-regarded fire engineering consultancy focused on delivering compliant, innovative fire safety design, risk assessment, and strategy services across a diverse project portfolio. The Bath office is growing, and this is a key leadership role to help steer technical excellence, client delivery, and team development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fire engineering projects through all stages – from concept and strategy through detailed design, specification, to construction and handover.
  • Prepare and approve fire safety strategies, risk assessments, compliance reviews, and modelling (e.g. smoke control, CFD, evacuation analysis).
  • Ensure design solutions comply with UK fire safety regulations, codes of practice (e.g. Approved Document B, BS 9999), and best practice, with a strong focus on buildability.
  • Act as technical lead, collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to embed fire safety at all phases.
  • Mentor and manage junior and mid-level fire engineers: review technical output, develop skills, and ensure quality outputs.
  • Contribute to business development: preparing proposals, engaging in client meetings, supporting bids, fee structuring.
  • Keep up to date with regulatory changes, emerging technologies, and innovations in fire safety.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Fire Engineering, Fire Science, Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience as a Senior or Principal Fire Engineer, ideally 5+ years for Senior / more for Principal.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership; membership with relevant bodies (e.g. Institution of Fire Engineers) is a plus.
  • Strong technical experience across a mix of sectors (commercial, residential, public, leisure etc.).
  • Proven experience with fire modelling, smoke control, risk assessments, fire strategy, compliance reviews.
  • Excellent communication skills – able to clearly present complex information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership experience – mentoring, project ownership, commercial awareness.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD, is necessary for this role.
