Job Description

Our client firm is a leading multidisciplinary consultancy delivering technically advanced infrastructure and development projects across the UK. Their structural engineering team is expanding, and we’re seeking a talented Senior Bridge Engineer to join us in delivering landmark schemes.

You will lead the design and delivery of bridge and highway structure projects, ensuring full compliance with Eurocodes and DMRB standards. This includes deriving structural loadings, performing detailed analysis, and developing robust design solutions. You’ll oversee the production of drawings, specifications, calculations, and risk assessments, while managing category design checks and maintaining rigorous quality control. In addition, you will lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the delivery of consistently high-standard outputs. The role also involves conducting inspections of existing bridge structures and preparing clear, comprehensive reports of your findings.

What are we looking for?

  • Highly experienced in the delivery of UK-based bridge projects
  • Competent in deriving bridge loadings to code requirements and using industry standard software for the analysis and detailed design of bridges and associated highway structures
  • Competent in developing details and producing specifications, calculations and risk assessments to meet Eurocode and DMRB requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of industry best practice and checking procedures with an ability to deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions
  • Experienced in managing and carrying out category design checks in line with DMRB requirements
  • Experienced in overseeing engineers and technicians to produce drawings and specification packages
  • Ideally Chartered MIStructE or ICE, with upwards of 5 to 10 years’ experience of highway and rail bridge projects, working in a design consultancy environment
  • An enthusiastic problem solver who can work under their own steam and as part of a team to meet client requirements and project timelines, and manage internal cost controls
  • Ideally experienced in undertaking inspections of existing bridge and highway structures and the associated formal reporting processes.
